The use of structural and decorative tile has been around a lot longer than you might think! Beautiful tile work has been discovered in architectural remains from the early 13th Century B.C. First made out of baked clay, the term ‘tile’ now refers to many colorful, cut materials including ceramic, stone, metal, clay and glass. Today, the use of tile is ubiquitous to kitchens and baths; its properties are perfect for protecting drywall from heat, water, and oil.

Considering how long tile has been in use, choosing a tile for your home can seem a bit overwhelming. Adair Homes has curated a selection of quality materials to choose from—but the style is all up to you.

Curious what the trend-setters are saying? Read on for some 2021 tips and trends from the experts.

The Tile Man

Paul Braestrup, at Emser Tile

2021 is all about the warmer tones: tans, taupes, beiges and warm greys. As we move to these warmer colors we are also seeing an increase in natural colors such as Blues and Greens as well as soft, natural looks which help blend the line between interior spaces and the surrounding exterior world in a naturally beautiful way.

Tile is often the most unique flooring product in your home. The variety of colors, textures, layouts, finishes, and sizes allow the homeowner to customize their home in a bold way not possible with other flooring options.

A tiled shower can make the biggest aesthetic impact in your bathroom and provide a luxurious look and feel impossible to achieve with fiberglass. Plus, with in-floor heat, tile is the only product which is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Timeless Tile

The new Source line from Emser Tile is on-point for 2021. Source is an unglazed porcelain tile that comes in 2x2”, 1” hex, or 3” hex in all the neutrals you’re looking for: white, gray, taupe, and fawn.

Hexagon tile captures interest with it’s fun and interesting shape, while remaining timeless in style. Hex tiles first became popular in the 1920’s and is still widely loved, even a century later.

Choose a timeless tile. Why? The product will outlast all the trends!

Tips from a Realtor

One of the trends I’m seeing lately is the wood, marble, concrete, and art-deco look replicated in tiles.

Most people are looking for a contemporary, neutral tile.

I always tell my clients to choose a timeless, neutral tile for their homes—whether it’s going on the floor, in the bathroom, or used as a backsplash.

As a Realtor, I’m always thinking re-sale. A good balance between modern and unique will stand the test of time. Just make sure you keep the look cohesive throughout your home. This will not only help increase the value of your home but will also ensure success in the future sale of your home.
