MEET CHUCK WINES

Chuck, tell us how you arrived at Adair. What got you interested in the homebuilding industry? Well, I was actually recruited to Adair through a previous sales manager. I have a long background in retail management; I’d done that for twenty years. This sales manager called me up every month for a year saying that I really needed to come work for Adair. Eventually, he broke me down. I took a shot—and it’s changed everything.

For what purpose does Adair Homes exist, from your perspective? Adair provides an invaluable service to customers. We are not just another home builder. We offer unique options, and I think it is great that we can help people get into their first home, their dream home, or their retirement home.  We really have something for every customer. For me, working with people on planning their home is really rewarding! I want them to remember the entire experience positively, so I try my best to be accurate and assure them that we have everything under control.

What values do you hold most dear, and why? One of Adair’s values is: Do The Right Thing. I think this is foundational. It should drive all of our behaviors. Trust is essential both with your customers, with your peers, and with your partners in the company.

What keeps you here at Adair? I really enjoy what I’m doing. I get really invested in people and I really enjoy the work.

In what ways does Adair Homes advance and communicate our purpose? I take great pride in the fact that Adair Homes has identified struggling communities that have suffered under the recent fires as "Adair Communities". Our history is grounded in these communities, and when we announced our Legacy Rebuild Program, I was taken aback by the generosity of the company to really focus on helping families that really need assistance. I think it shows that we are here to serve.

In what ways is the authenticity of Adair’s purpose evident in everyday activities? Every person I come across at Adair has always given their best.  I think this is supported by leadership in a significant way. Recently, our drafting team worked over a weekend to generate a custom home concept for one of our customers who has a tight timeline. The leader of the department drove that effort. He did not do it for me, but he did it for the customer. That kind of attitude permeates and impacts employees at all levels.

Tell us about something you are most proud of during your time at Adair Homes. I'm proud that I have been able to contribute effort into many people getting into their new homes. Every now and then, you really connect with a customer. I met a customer at a home show a few years ago, and she shared that her home had recently burned down.  We chatted for quite a while at the show and she asked if she could give me a hug before she left. Two years later, we have rebuilt her home, and we still chat every couple months just to catch up. It is a reminder of why we do what we do. What we do matters, and impacts peoples lives in a significant way.

Do you have a favorite TV show? I’m a super geek. So, if I’m not at Disneyland, I’m watching other people at Disneyland on YouTube channels.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work? Disneyland is standard operating procedure for our family. Hobbies? I have five kids. Any extra time is spent going to gymnastics, taking the kids backpacking, or golfing. Whatever it is, it involves the kids.

What’s your favorite food? Whatever I don’t make!

What’s something your coworkers might be surprised to learn about you? I have an identical twin brother that is a fifth grade teacher in Eugene. So, I have my very own doppelgänger around town!

Thank you so much, Chuck—we love hearing about your Adair experience.
