Let’s face it - few childhood memories are as cherished as summers spent at the beach. The smell of salt air, the feel of sand between your toes, and the sound of a crackling fire in the outdoor fire pit as marshmallows roast on a stick. Watching the spectacular Pacific Northwest sunsets and waking up to the sounds of waves crashing on the beach.

Summers at the beach bring out the kid in all of us.

So why not own your own beach house that you can enjoy all summer long? The truth is that it’s easier, more practical, and more affordable than you may think.

Here’s how.

Pick a Plan

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend a fortune to own a vacation house at the beach. Our Cottonwood plan has two full bedrooms and bathrooms (including a first floor master suite with walk-in closet) and starts at around $100k plus the cost of land.

Need a bit more space? We have more than 30 custom home floor plans to choose from ranging from 1,094 to more than 3,400 square feet. Plans like our popular Mt. Hood plan which features more than 2,700 square feet on a single level and a bonus room (or optional dual master suite). The Mt. Hood starts at around $177,000 plus the cost of land.

Research Rental Rates

A great way to make a beach house more affordable is to turn it into a vacation rental. You can rent out your home when you are not using it and offset the cost of ownership. Using your home as a vacation rental may increase your purchasing power so you can:

  • Design and build a larger beach house
  • Build in a more desirable area (like closer walking distance to the beach)
  • Offset costs such as mortgage, maintenance, insurance

Sites like AirBNB and VRBO are great tools to research vacation rental rates in the area where you want to build.

Prefer to have access to your beach house year-round? Our brand new Pines duplex floor plan gives you the freedom to enjoy your beach house whenever you’d like and rent out the other unit for extra income. View the Pines floor plan here.

Choose a Financing Option

Financing a custom home that is used as a vacation property doesn’t have to be complicated, but there are a few things you should know before you begin planning. Meet with a mortgage professional that specializes in custom homes - like Alliance Financial Services - to help you plan your vacation home with confidence.
