Curious how it all comes together? We interviewed a recent custom home building customer, in hopes that her experience would encourage others to pursue their dreams of a new home.
The Shelley Family, of Rainier, Oregon, finished their Adair custom built home this last April.
What made you decide to build with Adair Homes? We were referred to Adair by a custom builder once the cost to build was more than we were comfortable with.
What was your personal experience building a home with Adair? We really enjoyed working with Eric, Jay and Michelle. We spent the most time with Eric as our contractor. Eric took a lot of pride in the construction of our home. When an issue came up he would make sure it was fixed. No matter how long or how many times it took to correct. He treated our home with the same respect as if it was his own.
What made you decide to build a fully custom home? We wanted to make our own selections and have our home match our lifestyle.
What was the process of designing the home like? Jay was truly amazing from beginning to end. I never felt pressure from him to make a decision. He was open-minded to hearing our ideas and offering suggestions.
What is your favorite part of your Adair Home? Our kitchen, I LOVE the island. We had our own plans when we first met with Adair. Our plans had a small corner height bar. Working with Gary and Jay we were able to vault the ceiling and extend the house by two feet. Which allowed us to have the room for a HUGE island.
Building a home is not an easy process, even with the help of the Adair team. What advice do you have for others who are looking to build a home? It is a roller coaster ride of emotions. There are a lot of decisions to make, down to grout color. Set a budget and know there will be additional expenses. If you are not happy with the way things are going, speak up, you will be heard by Adair.
If you had the chance to do it again, would you? Why/Why not? Now that the process is almost over, yes. Our home is beautiful and we could not be happier. There were a few product ordering issues. The incorrect kitchen sink and faucet were installed. All fixtures were the wrong finish and had to be reordered.
Most Adair customers receive the keys to their new home with "move-in equity", what was your equity position at the time your home was completed? A little over 20 percent.
Of all the things you personally did on your Adair Home build, what are you most proud of? Our master shower. I never imagined we would have such a beautiful custom walk in shower. It is truly unbelievable.
