Jeff Stroup, Construction Superintendent
How did you become interested in the Construction Industry? It started a long time ago, back when I was just a kid helping my dad around our house. I really enjoyed the project process: identifying a need and creating a solution. As a result, I jumped at the chance to take a construction management course in High School, where I was afforded the opportunity to both learn the home building process, and build a house from the ground up. I was hooked.
How long have you been with Adair Homes? I have had the pleasure of working with Adair Homes for 17 years now. I have found Adair to be the perfect company in which to grow, and I really couldn’t imagine myself working for anyone else. I value Honesty and Integrity—it’s just the right way to live—and Adair holds these same values as part of their mission statement.
For what purpose does Adair Homes exist, from your perspective? Adair Homes exists to provide affordable stick-built on-your-lot housing. The absolute best part of my job is working with the ‘old school’ client—those who have worked their way through the housing system and are finally ready to jump into their first custom built house—and Adair Homes is the company that can get them over the finish line. Our company mission is centered around building value into every house.
In what ways is the authenticity of Adair’s purpose evident in everyday activities? Our goal is to save people money and create efficiencies in the home building process. We do this through thoughtful design, a streamlined building model, and the power of volume buys. This all translates into massive cost savings and value for the dollar passed on to each and every one of our clients.
Tell us about something you are most proud of during your tenure at Adair Homes? I’ve helped build over 1000 houses, but only one of them has been my own home. My home is not fancy compared to what we do now, but it has served me well for the last 13 years. Building my own home gave me perspective on what our customers go through—permitting, financing, and all of those other details that make the process exciting (and sometimes overwhelming). There is nothing like building a home of your own.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Well, I can’t stop doing projects. I am in the middle of building a massive 3000-gallon pond, landscaping, and rebuilding the native habitat in my backyard. It is an all-consuming, yet ultimately satisfying “part-time job”. Outside of the backyard, I usually enjoy music festivals (look out next year!), and exploring ethnic foods. The spicier, the better.
What is one thing your co-workers might find surprising? That I’m bald? Nah. Just kidding. They might be surprised to find out that I have an actual degree in Construction Management!
