The Before & After of a Josephine Craftsman: Customizing Your Home After Move-in

Written by Kari Montoya | Jul 3, 2021 5:00:00 PM

Back in 2015, Evan and Jacquelyn Brown built Adair Home’s first Josephine craftsman plan in Tangent, Oregon. The open-concept plan has since become one of our most popular choices. At the heart of this home is the Great Room and Kitchen, all-in-one. It allows a family to be together, and yet, be involved in different activities. “I love being in one room and knowing where our kids are,” says Jacquelyn. "It’s the perfect plan for entertaining friends and family."

A CRAFTSMAN TO CALL YOUR OWN

Building a Home

The Josephine plan boasts 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a large 3-car garage. Its dedicated entry is a big selling point—especially in the Pacific Northwest. Coming in and out of the weather and having a covered porch and a space to remove jackets and shoes is ideal.

“Building with Adair allowed us to build a home in a neighborhood that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to afford,” says Jacquelyn. “And, we had $50,000 of equity immediately after building the house.”

Besides the financial upsides, the Brown’s appreciated Adair’s flexibility to customize and optimize their home from the ground up.

DIY Customization

While living in the home over the last six years, the Brown's have found the time to do even more to customize their home to better suite their family.

“We upgraded the lighting,” says Evan. “The chandelier, pendants, and track lighting over the breakfast bar.” The new modern farmhouse fixtures add to the luxury home feel, and pair perfectly with the herringbone tiled backsplash throughout the kitchen.

On the floors, a Bamboo hardwood flows throughout the home. Its seamless transitions make the home feel even larger than its 2,382 square feet.

Additionally, the Browns added built-in shelving for linens and pantry items, and built a custom coffee bar between the dining area and the kitchen—perfect for those early morning lattes.

The Next Chapter

Since building their home, the Brown’s have added a new family member—a baby boy! As a result, they have decided to put the home on the market in order to move closer to extended family in Georgia. We have no doubt that this home will find wonderful new owners to carry on the Brown’s love, devotion, and happy memory-making.
