Find me on:

Not sure what it’s like to retire in the Pacific Northwest? In one word, it’s glorious. You’ll enjoy wonderful weather all year, plenty of amazing things to do (and eat), and lots of great neighbors. Here are four reasons you should consider retiring here in the Pacific Northwest:

1. The great outdoors is your backyard

You’re always less than a tank of gas away from the ocean and the mountains. What’s your pleasure? When you live here in the Pacific Northwest, you won’t have to choose one over the other. We say visit them both, and often. Alternate your weekends between collecting seashells and driftwood on the beach, and sipping mulled wine on a ski resort in the mountains.

But why stop there? You’re right next door to a real life rainforest. You’ll love the forests, the wild flowers, the winding hiking trails that lead you to the most breathtaking views, the majestic waterfalls, and the constant inspiration of nature.

2. Mild weather year round

Craving that mild Pacific Northwest weather all year?  When the rest of the country is facing frigid cold and snow, western Oregon and Washington rarely get below the 40s. And In the summer months, their temperature maxes out in the 80s. It’s so pleasant that you may not even turn on your A/C in July!

Contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t rain here all the time. In fact, it rains more in Hawaii and Mississippi than it does here. On average, you’ll enjoy between 100 to 200 days of sun per year. Sequim is especially known for its sunny days.

3. Great places to eat

If you’re big into seafood, no place on earth is better than the Pacific Northwest. You’ll have your choice of everything from salmon to king crab. The street food here is also legendary. You’ll find all sorts of cuisine here, giving yourself a world-travelled palate without leaving the country.

Don’t think we forgot your caffeine fix. Coffee is pretty much a religion around here. We dare you to go on a coffee tour and try different roasters like Stumptown or Heart Roasters. Be prepared to become addicted.

4. It’s close to everything

As we mentioned before, you’re close to nature’s wonders, but you’re also close to man’s wonders, too. Pack up the grandkids and take a fun vacation to Disneyland, or stretch your legs internationally, to one of the most beautiful cities in the world-- Vancouver, B.C.
