When you think of your dream home you can probably envision what a lot of the rooms will look like. Kitchen? Check. Master suite? Check. Maybe you have Pinterest boards set up by room and filled with ideas (smart thinking). But have you thought about what you’d like the exterior of your home to look like?

The exterior of your home says a lot about you. But if designing the exterior of your home seems overwhelming we have a simple 3-step plan for creating an exterior design that says you’re smart and stylish.

Step One: Choose a Floor Plan

Have you ever heard someone say that a house has “good bones?” Often they are referring to a house that’s well-designed. No weird room layout, great space and light, and design that makes sense for how people actually live today. Well, the same can be said for the outside of the house. That’s why it’s so important to start with the floor plan when you’re thinking about curb appeal. (Don’t worry, we have dozens of custom home floor plans to choose from.)

For example, let’s say you really like the look of a side-entry or recessed garage. Our Cashmere, Odell, or McKenzie might be the right plan for you.  Or let’s say you don’t want a garage at all, or prefer your garage as a separate structure. Then our Jefferson, Rhododendron, Cottonwood or Pines duplex plan might work best.

Step Two: Choose an Exterior Design

Now things get really fun. The exterior design of a home is often referred to as an elevation. At Adair Homes, we have four main elevation style to choose from: Traditions, Signature, Impressions, and Craftsman. Not all elevations are available on all plans. To see which elevations are available for your plan, look for the elevation style options at the top of every floor plan page.

If you don’t see the elevation style you like for your plan, not to worry. We have lots of ways to help you achieve the look you want for any plan. Often our customers find that they like some things from one exterior design and some other things from a different floor plan design. Most of the time we can accommodate those changes.

Step Three: Choose Your Exterior Colors

This is the easiest and most affordable way to add your own unique sense of style to the exterior of your home. Some customers like bold and modern while others prefer classic neutrals. You get to decide whatever floats your boat. After all, it’s your house, so we think you should get to choose.

Of course, you never have to go it alone when designing your custom home. We’re here to help every step of the way. You can reach out to us any time by Live Chat or you can stop by a Design Center (find one near you).
