One of the best things about a custom home kitchen is that you’ll design it to suit your individual needs and desires. But with so many design options, where do you even begin?

In this post, we’re going to take a look at the hottest kitchen design ideas for 2016. And the good news is that each one of these trends is possible in a custom-built Adair Home. Let’s take a sneak peak at what’ll be hot in 2016.

Oversized Kitchen Islands

It’s no surprise that islands are a top design feature in the modern kitchen. Not only does an island increase prepping and storage space in your kitchen, it allows you to face outward instead of towards a wall.

The latest trend in kitchen islands is to super-size them. These oversized islands offer even more counter space and can be zoned into different areas, for example: a place to prep, a place to eat, a place to cook, and a place to wash dishes.

With an oversized kitchen island, you won’t have to turn your back on company. You can socialize with friends or help your kids with their homework all while simultaneously preparing snacks or meals. An oversized kitchen island can include a sink, a stovetop, a dishwasher, an eating bar, and so much more.

Here are a few of our floor plans that include an oversized kitchen island:

The Odell

The Mt. Hood

The Marion

Corner Sink

Have you considered where you should place your sink? If you’re planning on doing an oversized kitchen island, that’s a great place for a sink, but there’s also one overlooked area that would be perfect for your sink-- the corner.

That’s right-- the dead area that often presents a design dilemma can be transformed into usable space.

A corner sink can be a perfect solution. It offers more storage for cleaning supplies and plenty of room for plumbing pipes. Another bonus is that corner sinks allow for uninterrupted countertops, giving yourself a larger working surface for food preparation.

Here are a few of our plans with corner sinks that you’ll love:

The Mt. Rainier

The Josephine

The Blakely

Corner Pantry

Speaking of corners, sinks aren’t the only feature to find a new corner home-- pantries are also making practical use of the corner.

Building with a corner pantry means that everything is in reaching distance. This ergonomic pantry style is perfect for smaller kitchens that need to maximize space. It also attractively bridges two counters together.

Here are three floor plans we offer that include a corner pantry:

The Livingstone

The Oswego

The Caldera
