Melissa Lynn Galland

My passion for homebuilding dates back to early childhood when my father and uncle started up a construction company in California. After nearly two decades of marketing experience, I was honored to join the Adair Homes team in 2015. I am proud to promote our message of affordable quality homes so that even more future homeowners can realize their dream. Rooted in the PNW; you are likely to find me hiking, volunteering in my daughter's theater group, or curled up with a good book when I am not when I am not coordinating our advertising efforts or dreaming up creative concepts that might make the customer experience a little more enjoyable.

Whether you are starting from scratch in a new home, planning to sell your existing home, or just want to change up the vibe where you currently live, one or two coats of paint are sometimes all you need to transform a room. Changing a kitchen from a sterile white to an inviting, warmer space can help bring a family together at mealtime. A basic master bathroom can turn into a cheery oasis that brightens every morning. No matter what type of atmosphere you’re trying to achieve, choosing the right paint colors is an important first step.

When choosing paint colors, think about how you want to react when you enter a space and what feelings you want it to evoke. Think about how you plan to use the space. Do you want to feel calm and serene, or active and creative? The colors that surround you are a window to your personality and a reflection of your personal style.

Building a new home gives you the unique opportunity to customize its features and functions to match your lifestyle. If you intend to retire in the home, have a family member with special needs, or just want to accommodate all types of guests, making smart decisions during the design process will ensure that your home is suitably prepared.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 7 percent of the population has a disability that makes it difficult to walk or climb stairs. The total number of people who have any type of disability—including ambulatory, vision-impaired, and difficulty with independent living—is closer to 13 percent. The percentage is much higher for older adults, with almost half of people over the age of 75 living with a disability. Choosing a Floorplan for Narrow Lot Homes

Posted by Melissa Lynn Galland on Jan 4, 2019 8:10:25 AM

Topics: Floor Plans

Building a new custom home in an urban area with smaller property sizes can present some challenges, especially when the lot is narrow. Local regulations may require setbacks that make the possible footprint even smaller, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a home with everything you want and need. You just have to work with a floor plan that was designed for narrow lots.

In fact, building on a narrow lot offers some advantages that prompt many families to seek out this type of property. It typically requires less maintenance because there is less yard space to care for. Homes on narrow lots also tend to feel more private because there are fewer windows at the front and the living spaces are deeper in the home.

However, these advantages are sometimes double-edged swords. Some of the challenges that exist include deciding where to place the garage, ensuring privacy with close property lines on the sides of the home, and maximizing outdoor living space. Many homeowners also struggle with making the interior spaces feel open and large with a narrow footprint.

The professionals at Adair Homes have thought of all these challenges and created 12 narrow lot floor plans that you can customize for your lifestyle.

Whether you want to live in an urban neighborhood with close neighbors or on a secluded wooded lot, there is a lot to think about when looking for land.

Lynn Tribon, our Director of Market Development, has some advice for people who are searching for the right location to build a new home. With 20 years of experience at Adair Homes, Lynn has seen it all. Here’s what she has to say about finding the perfect lot for your new custom home:
