There’s a lot of talk about how mom really makes the decisions when it comes to designing a new home, and that may be true. But we think dad is pretty special too. After all, every king needs his own castle and dad is no exception. So this Father’s Day we thought we’d share some of our best custom home design ideas for creating a home that makes dad feel special every day of the year.

Garage

garage

Stereotypical? Maybe. But the garage is still popular with dads of all ages. Maybe that’s because garages are one of the most flexible areas in the home. In addition to storing his prized ‘65 Mustang, dad can also use the garage for a home gym, a workshop, a gardening shed, and more. Unlike other areas of the house, the garage is the one place where dad never has to worry about spilling or staining. It’s truly his domain. That’s why garages should always be part of the planning process when you gather custom home design ideas.

Popular plans that feature a three car garage:  Livingston, Mt. Hood, Josephine

ProTeam Tip: Ask a Home Ownership Counselor about adding a third garage bay to any custom home floor plan.

Bonus Room

Think of it like an indoor garage. The bonus room is spacious, flexible, and has lots of ways for dad to customize it. A bonus room makes a perfect out-of-the-way room for a pool table, vintage video games, ping pong table, music room (dad sure could shred back in his day) and even a neighborhood poker night. A bonus room also makes a great man cave. Customize your bonus room with a built-in media system with room for a big screen tv and recliners for the perfect retreat on game day.

Popular plans that feature a bonus room: Madison, St. Helens, Mt. Hood, Cashmere

ProTeam tip: Create a bonus room in almost any floor plan by combining two bedrooms or expanding the square footage of your plan.

Den
den

Whether it’s paying bills, working from home or writing the next great American novel, dad deserves his own space away from the kitchen table. A den can be used as a home office, a library, a hobby room or a tv room. Decorate the den in more masculine colors and showcase dad’s favorite things: awards, collections, framed photos.

You can create a den in almost any Adair Homes custom home floor plan. Visit a Sales Center and talk to a Home Ownership Counselor for more details.

ProTeam tip: Customize any den by expanding the room, adding built-in shelves or workspace, making a window larger for more natural light or adding vaulted ceilings.
