It’s the dead of winter, and we think that’s the perfect time to start thinking about summer vacation at the beach. Toes in the sand, sun on your face, shorts and flips flops as you watch the sun slip behind the skyline. If your happy place is spending time with family and friends at the ocean every weekend (or all summer long), why not build your own summer cottage by the ocean? Make this the last summer you rent someone else’s cottage and begin the process of building your own exactly how (and where) you want it.

Today there are lots of creative ways to make a second home at the beach more affordable than ever. One smart way is to choose the right floor plan. Like our Cottonwood plan. At just 1,094 square feet the Cottonwood is one of our most affordable floor plans, but this quaint cottage-style home definitely doesn’t lack charm and style.

Here are just a few reasons why our Cottonwood plan could be your perfect getaway-by-the-sea.

Right-Sized

Who wants to spend their holidays cleaning a too-big house? Not us! The Cottonwood is the perfect size for low-maintenance living with an open concept design that never feels crowded or cramped. You can even add an optional fireplace in the Great Room for when the summer sun gives way to an autumn chill.

Plush and Private

The Cottonwood may be reminiscent of an old charming cottage, but this home includes plenty of modern luxuries like a main level master suite with walk-in closet. Building on a small lot? The unique design of the Cottonwood includes a master suite with or without windows on the side wall so you’ll never have to worry about peek-a-boo neighbors.

Full Sized Guest Suite

Here’s where we think the Cottonwood really shines. There is a private guest suite that takes up the entire second floor complete with private bath. This means that you can invite friends out for the weekend and you and your guests will each enjoy their own private suite.
