Do you work from home and yearn for a home office that’s worth the (lack of) commute?

Whether you only spend a couple of hours a week in your space, or you work from home full time, you need an office that’s both comfortable and efficient.

Who really wants to spend time in a makeshift “home office” that’s actually a closet or a guest room? That’s okay for occasional hobbies or pastimes, but you’re doing actual work, and you deserve better. You need a dedicated space that supports you.

The good news is that many of our floor plans include the perfect space for a dedicated home office. Let’s take a look at a few of our favorite floor plans with the option to create a home office. We’ll also highlight the most important things to consider when designing a home office.

Choose a Light Filled Location

An essential feature of any office, home or otherwise, is plenty of natural light. You need big, beautiful windows that flood your space with sunlight. Sunlight has been scientifically proven to boost your mood and actually increase work productivity.

The Liberty floor plan features an office space with perfect window placement for maximum brightness. You’re sure to feel energized in this light-filled space.

Separate from the Rest of the Home

Will you need to invite clients into your home? If you plan on holding meetings and entertaining clients, you need an office that’s separate from the rest of your home to do so.

Many of our floor plans include an office space conveniently located right off of the foyer. Usher guests directly into your office without taking them through your personal living space.

We think you’ll love the formality and separation of space that’s designed into the Mt. Rainier floor plan.

On the other hand, perhaps you don’t need to entertain clients in your home, but you still want an office that’s separate from the rest of the home. You need a clear work zone and home zone. You want a dedicated space somewhere far, far away from your master suite (but close enough to get to in pajamas).

If that sounds like you, check out the Lewisville floor plan. Here, the fourth bedroom can be converted into an office space. This space is hidden from the rest of the home.

Have a Room with a View

Last, but certainly not least, your home office should have a lovely view. There’s nothing more uninspiring than staring at a blank wall or cubicle.

One of the best things about working from home is that your office can always have a beautiful view. To get the best view possible for your home office, you can choose a floor plan with your office facing the front of the home, or you can plan for a space that’s nestled away toward the back of the home.

The Jefferson floor plan is perfect for homeowners who prefer a tucked away home office. This 2,222 square foot home is also a great option for narrow lots.
