Find me on:

You know those late-night infomercials that promise you the best deal ever and then, just when you think you can’t live without the workout DVDs/miraculous mop/cut-through-tin-can knives, they throw in those magic words:

“But wait, there’s more!”

They toss in a bonus that makes an already irresistible deal seem like an absolute no-brainer.

Yeah, that’s kind of what bonus rooms are like. You begin by choosing your perfect custom home floor plan, the one with all of the irresistible features you dream of having in your new home: the big spacious kitchen, the luxurious master suite, and the great room with the perfect spot for your big-screen TV that will make you the envy of the neighborhood on game day. Just when you think the floor plan you’ve chosen can’t be any more perfect for your family ...

But wait, there’s more!

Bonus rooms are big, open, do-whatever-you-want rooms. Make it a hobby room, or a home gym, or use it for a home business. Set up your pool table or add some plush seating and create your own private screening room. That’s the point. It’s a bonus—like icing on top of the cake.

Bonus rooms are also a hot commodity these days with the rise in home offices, hybrid learning spaces, and home gyms. Building a new custom home is an opportunity to plan for the future, and having a flex space such as a bonus room will allow you to be prepared for whatever life throws at you. If you need some extra space, you have the freedom to design exactly what you need in your perfect dream bonus room house plan.

At Adair Homes, we feature nearly a dozen two-story and ranch-style custom home plans that include a bonus room. Here are four custom home floor plans that feature all of the flexibility of a bonus room with the convenience of single-level living.

The Madison

At 2,449 square feet, the Madison is a ranch-style custom home plan that has a popular split bedroom design to create more privacy for the master suite. The Madison can be built as a four-bedroom house or as a three-bedroom house with a bonus room. The possibilities are endless: Leave it open as a playroom, close it off to create your own private library, or add a French door for his-and-her home offices.

With families spending more time at home together these days, privacy is at a premium. Nestled between the smaller bedrooms, the bonus room in The Madison is perfect for a hybrid learning environment. If you have transitioned to working from home, this bonus room also offers good separation from the common areas and easy access to the half-bath so you don’t have to interrupt your workflow during the day.

Additional options you can get with The Madison include:

  • Covered patio
  • Gourmet kitchen
  • Upgraded master bath
  • Five exterior styles

The St. Helens

St. Helens

If you have a house full of kids that like to wake up too early on weekends and stay up too late on weeknights, then the St. Helens might be the perfect compromise. The big bonus room is located on the other side of the home so early morning cartoons or late-night movies won’t keep you from getting your beauty sleep. You can also use the bonus room as a home gym, in-law suite, or whatever you envision. Customize it with French doors that lead to the backyard for indoor/outdoor summer entertaining or—if you’re feeling inspired—turn it into a private bar or game room.

This bonus room also has an optional fireplace, allowing you to create a cozy retreat—think massage room or lady lounge. You can also add built-in storage to stash your movie collection, workout gear, or home office files.

Additional options for the St. Helens floor plan include:

  • Dual master suites
  • Additional garage
  • Upgraded master bath
  • Five exterior styles

The Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood

Like the St. Helens, the Mt. Hood plan features a sprawling single-story design with a bonus room that’s perfectly situated to maximize privacy. But at 2,734 square feet, the Mt. Hood includes roomier rooms, a bigger kitchen breakfast bar, and a den. There are plenty of possibilities for the bonus room: a game room for casual entertaining, a private dance studio, a teen den, or something completely different. It’s all up to you.

The Cashmere

Cashmere

The Cashmere is one of our newest floor plans, and it’s already become a customer favorite. At 3,120 square feet, the Cashmere has plenty of space with luxurious features including dual walk-in closets in the master suite, a gourmet kitchen with a huge walk-in pantry, and a stately side-entrance garage. You can add to the luxury of the Cashmere by turning the bonus room into a private home gym, a screening room, a guest suite, or a second living area.
